Celebrate Fall with Polish Stoneware

Celebrate Fall with Polish Stoneware

October kicks off the start of a busy Fall holiday season when we start gathering with family and friends throughout the remainder of the year for many celebrations. We enjoy getting together with those we love for traditional holidays such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas and to celebrate the New Year.

There's also all the normal birthdays, anniversaries and other events that happen no matter what time of year along with football game get-togethers, office parties, and others mixed in. With so many gatherings coming up, let’s shake it up a little with something new on the menu.

Here at The Polish Pottery Shoppe, we are always coming up with new ideas, including recipes. So, we’re offering you a dish that’s not new to us, but we know you’ll love it. Plus, it features apples which are a traditional fall fruit.

Our Apple Wedge dip is delicious, healthy, and when served with a variety of apples, is just plain festive. Our owner Cindy has been making it for years. The recipe originally came from Sassafras!, a cookbook published and sold by the Junior League of Springfield, Missouri. This recipe is also a nice alternative to the regular old chips and dip that one finds at every party.

This yummy dip calls for only a few ingredients and can be whipped up in a hurry. Its unique flavor comes from the combination of the sweetness of dates and the tart flavor of pineapple.

When we make our Apple Wedge Dip, we use fresh dates when we can find them. We have noticed they are more readily available than in the past.  We have found them locally at Price Cutter and Lucky’s Market. In a pinch, Dole, Sun-Maid, and others do offer a packaged variety. Be sure to buy dates that are already pitted.

Our Apple Wedge Dip can be made and chilled ahead of time. It’s easily transported which is nice when you are invited to a take-a-dish gathering at church, the office, or a game night with friends.

Apple Wedge Dip

May also be used as stuffing for baked apples

1 8 ounce package cream cheese, softened

1 Tablespoon mayonnaise

1 7 ounce can crushed pineapple, drained

1 Cup chopped dates (fresh is best)

½ Cup chopped pecans

Tart red and green apples, unpeeled, cut into wedges

Beat the cream cheese and mayonnaise together. Stir in pineapple, dates, and nuts.  Cover and refrigerate up to 48 hours. Makes two cups.  Serve with red and green apple wedges.

Once chilled, transfer the apple wedge dip to a small bowl for serving.  Then arrange red and green sliced apple wedges on your favorite Polish Stoneware serving tray or platter and you’re all set. We promise you will receive many compliments from your guests.

Enjoy!
